Dimona Injuries: 33 Treated After Incident, Child Among Hurt
An Iranian missile struck a residential building in Dimona, Israel, on Saturday evening, injuring 33 people, including a 10-year-old boy, according to medical officials. The attack, part of a larger barrage of missiles launched by Iran, targeted the southern region of Israel and the Galilee area.
Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedics reported that the 10-year-old boy was among those treated in Dimona. He and a woman in her 40s sustained moderate injuries from shrapnel. Eight additional people were injured in Ma’alot-Tarshiha, in northern Israel, due to a barrage of rockets fired from Lebanon by Hezbollah.
The missile that directly hit the Dimona building was likely a cluster munition, sparking a large fire and causing significant damage to surrounding structures. Local authorities announced the closure of schools and educational institutions in Dimona and Yeruham on Sunday following the attack.
According to reports, the impact in Dimona occurred approximately nine seconds after sirens were activated. At least twelve impact sites were reported across the region. There were also reports of interceptor missiles malfunctioning, leading to a direct hit within the city.
Earlier in the day, a direct hit from an Iranian cluster missile struck a kindergarten in Rishon LeZion. Fortunately, the building was empty at the time, and no injuries were reported in that incident.
Iran has claimed responsibility for the launches, stating they were in “revenge” for a previous attack on the Natanz facility. As of Sunday morning, no official statement has been released regarding potential retaliatory measures from Israel.
