Dikanza: Angolan Instrument Fuels Uruguay-Africa Musical Project

Uruguayan World Music Project Dikanza to Debut Album ​’Atlantic

Montevideo, Uruguay – Dikanza, a new​ World Music project blending Uruguayan and Angolan influences through the Portuguese language, will⁢ launch its debut⁤ album, Atlantic, with a live performance next Thursday, October ‍16th, at ⁢8:30 ‍p.m. in the Blanca Podestá room of the ‍Agadu Theater.⁢ The project features vocalist Laura charlone, a Uruguayan artist with a deep connection to Angola – ‍where she lived for 14 years and holds dual nationality – ⁤alongside ⁢a seasoned ensemble of musicians.

Atlantic is ⁤a nine-song album recorded ⁣in Montevideo​ between 2023 and 2025,exploring themes of ‌nostalgia and​ “sodade,” a Portuguese term⁤ for a​ melancholic longing. the album, ‍mastered⁢ by Orlando Fernández, represents​ a⁣ unique musical crossroads,​ drawing on Charlone’s personal history and cultural heritage. Dikanza’s lineup includes Santiago Lema (former bassist of rouge, guitarist and vocalist in Captain Storm), Daniel Yaffé on drums, Fernando Novelli on guitar and keys, and Santiago Abuchalja on bass, ‌with‌ additional⁣ invited musicians joining ⁢for the launch event.
