Digimon Story: Time Stranger – New DLC & Referendum Results Revealed
Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe has announced that Digimon Story: Time Stranger will launch on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on July 10, 2026, following its initial release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows in October 2025. The role-playing game, developed by Media.Vision, has already surpassed one million units sold on its initial platforms.
Players who purchase Digimon Story: Time Stranger on the original Nintendo Switch will receive a free update allowing the game to run with enhanced graphics equivalent to the native Nintendo Switch 2 version when played on the newer console. This update will allow for cross-platform play and visual fidelity.
The release comes after a period of transition for the Digimon video game franchise at Bandai Namco. Producer Kazumasa Habu, who oversaw many Digimon video games between 2010 and 2022, revealed in February 2024 that he had ceased working on Digimon games as of April 2023. Habu was involved in the initial announcement of Digimon Story: Time Stranger in December 2017, stating at the time that the project was being developed in parallel with Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory to avoid a lengthy wait between releases. He later reconfirmed the game’s development in 2018 and 2022, revealing that the story would take place in the Digital World and feature the Olympos XII.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger allows players to collect, tame, and battle over 450 different Digimon. The game features a turn-based combat system and a narrative centered around an event threatening both the human and digital worlds. Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch versions include bonuses such as the Uniform of a Certain School costumes, an Adventure Item set, and Agumon (Black) and Gabumon (Black).
A Season Pass for the Nintendo Switch version will include three DLC packs, each adding five additional Digimon and a new story episode. The Season Pass also includes the Golden Moai farm item for employ in the game’s Digifarm feature. On the Nintendo Switch 2, players can choose between Quality Mode (4K HDR, up to 30FPS docked. Full HD up to 30FPS handheld) and Performance Mode (Full HD, up to 60FPS docked and handheld).
