Dibu Martínez carried off on stretcher after collision with Everton

The incident occurred in the 66th minute when both players crashed into each other inside the Chelsea penalty area as the goalkeeper came out to clear a set-piece cross.

The collision halted the match for more than eight minutes. Medical staff from both teams rushed onto the turf to attend to the players. While Branthwaite suffered a heavy blow that left him spitting blood, the defender recovered enough to finish the game, according to Diario AS. Martínez remained motionless on the ground after initially moving one of his arms, prompting immediate medical intervention that included administering oxygen on the pitch.

Martínez Undergoes Medical Evaluations After Leaving Field

In the 75th minute, medical personnel loaded Martínez onto a stretcher and carried him off the field. Sections of the Everton crowd applauded the Argentine international as he departed the stadium for a local hospital, where DAZN reported he underwent preventive medical evaluations.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso addressed the media after the fixture regarding the goalkeeper’s condition. Alonso stated that Martínez left the field conscious and was undergoing tests at the hospital.

Chelsea Secures Victory as Penders Makes Debut

Mike Penders replaced the injured Argentine, making his Premier League debut for Chelsea at 21 years of age. Despite the lengthy stoppage and the subsequent eleven minutes of added time called by the referee, Chelsea maintained their advantage and secured a 0-2 victory away from home.

The exact nature of Martínez’s injury and his recovery timeline remain unconfirmed by the club. However, upcoming fixtures on the Chelsea schedule include a Premier League match against Tottenham on October 24, an FA Cup fixture against Liverpool on October 28, a league meeting with Manchester United on October 31, and an away match against Sunderland on November 8.
