Devynne Charlton Wins 3rd World Indoor 60m Hurdles Title & Equals World Record
Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas secured her third consecutive world indoor 60m hurdles title on Sunday at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Kujawy Pomorze, equaling her own world record of 7.65 seconds.
The performance matched the record Charlton set when winning her first gold medal in Glasgow in 2024, making her the first athlete to achieve three victories in the event. The race unfolded at the Arena Toruń in Poland, with Charlton demonstrating her dominance in the final.
Nadine Visser of the Netherlands claimed the silver medal with a time of 7.73 seconds, while Polish athlete Pia Skrzyszowska matched Visser’s time to secure the bronze, also setting a new Polish national record. The home crowd responded enthusiastically to Skrzyszowska’s achievement.
The final followed a strong showing in the semi-finals, where Skrzyszowska and Ditaji Kambundji both clocked a joint world lead of 7.76 seconds. Charlton then further lowered the bar in her semi-final race, recording a time of 7.74 seconds, despite appearing to ease up before crossing the finish line.
Charlton’s consistent performance throughout the championships underscores her position as a leading figure in the event. Her initial world record of 7.65 seconds was established in Glasgow in 2024, a mark she has now equaled on multiple occasions. The Bahamian athlete has been in exceptional form, having previously broken the world record in New York City last month with a time of 7.67 seconds, a record briefly tied by American Tia Jones.
The result at the World Athletics Indoor Championships represents Charlton’s first global gold medal in track and field. She also holds the title of world indoor tour champion for this season.
The athlete’s performance is subject to the standard ratification procedures by World Athletics.
