ITTA BENA, Miss. - The Mississippi Valley State University Devilettes overcame a resilient knights squad in a thrilling five-set match (25-23, 23-25, 25-18, 20-25, 15-12) on Saturday, showcasing a dynamic offensive performance and tenacious defense.The victory marks a crucial moment for the Devilettes as they continue their tournament play, seeking to build momentum and solidify their standing in the Southwestern athletic Conference.
This match highlighted significant individual breakthroughs for several MVSU players, signaling a potential turning point in the team’s season. Carmella Jones led the offensive charge, achieving new personal bests with 10.5 points (2.10 points per set) and nine kills (1.80 kills per set). She was equally impactful on the defensive side, contributing three blocks (0.60 blocks per set). Alaya Rhodes matched Jones’ nine kills and registered an identical .273 hitting percentage, co-leading the team’s attack.
Dashaun Pinesette delivered what was described as her best performance as a Devilette,recording a team-high 12 digs (2.40 digs per set) alongside nine points (1.80 points per set), seven kills (1.40 kills per set), and two aces (0.40 aces per set). aniyah Moore also reached new heights, posting personal records in points (9.5, 1.90 p/s), kills (six, 1.20 p/s), and blocks (seven, 1.40 p/s).
Carrington Archer orchestrated the offense with 28 assists (5.60 assists per set) and came within two digs of achieving her first collegiate double-double, adding a career-high eight digs (1.60 digs per set).
The Devilettes will conclude their tournament schedule with a neutral site matchup against Rust College at 3 p.m. inside The Castle.
