Ceasefire Fragile as Israel resumes Strikes in Gaza; Hundreds of Thousands Face Food Crisis
Gaza Strip - november 22, 2025 – Despite a temporary ceasefire initiated on October 10, Israel has resumed attacks within the Gaza Strip, further jeopardizing the already dire humanitarian situation for the territory’s more than two million residents. The renewed hostilities coincide with reports that hundreds of thousands of Gazans are in urgent need of food assistance, even as aid organizations struggle to meet the escalating demand.
The resumption of conflict threatens to derail efforts to deliver critical supplies and underscores the precariousness of the truce between israel and Hamas, the militant Islamist group controlling Gaza. The ongoing conflict has created a catastrophic humanitarian crisis, displacing a significant portion of the population and severely restricting access to essential resources. The World Food Program (WFP) is working to alleviate the growing hunger, but faces substantial challenges in reaching those most in need.
According to WFP spokesperson Abeer Etefa, speaking from Geneva on November 22, 2025, the organization has delivered over 40,000 tons of food to the Gaza Strip as the ceasefire began. This aid has reached more than 530,000 people, representing approximately one-third of the WFP’s monthly target. The WFP continues to urgently provide food aid, recognizing the critical need within the besieged territory.
The situation is compounded by recent massive funding cuts to the UN’s World Food Programme, impacting its ability to fully address global hunger crises, including the one unfolding in Gaza. The renewed Israeli strikes raise concerns about further disruptions to aid deliveries and a potential worsening of the food security crisis for the Palestinian population.
