Dermot Kennedy Surprise Gig: New Album ‘Weight of the Woods’ Preview
Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy surprised fans Saturday evening with an intimate pop-up performance at Beyond the Trees Avondale in County Wicklow, celebrating the upcoming release of his third studio album, The Weight of the Woods.
The event featured an exclusive first listen to the full album, followed by a live set from Kennedy performed on the 38-metre high Viewing Tower within the Avondale Forest Park. Attendees were accompanied by the Maynooth University Chamber Choir during the performance, which included tracks from the modern album such as “Funeral,” “Refuge,” and “Honest.”
The Weight of the Woods was written and recorded between Ireland and Nashville, with production led by Gabe Simon. It is scheduled for release in Ireland on April 3, 2026. Beyond the Trees Avondale, located within the significant natural and cultural landmark of Avondale Forest Park, is managed by Coillte Ireland, who expressed delight at hosting the event.
Coillte CEO Imelda Hurley stated that hosting Kennedy at Avondale was a fitting event on International Day of Forests, highlighting the connection between people and nature. “It’s so inspiring to see our forests become a backdrop for creativity and shared experiences, and to celebrate how they can be enjoyed and valued by everyone,” Hurley said.
Kennedy has previously performed at major venues including London’s The O2 and New York’s Madison Square Garden. He is set to embark on a European tour in May and June, followed by six arena dates in the UK, including a return to The O2 in London on June 5th. He will then perform two headline shows at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on July 11th and 12th.
