DENVER, CO - Residents of Denver’s la Alma-Lincoln park neighborhood are expressing cautious optimism as plans for a new Broncos stadium move forward, anticipating both challenges and opportunities for a community steeped in Denver’s history.the stadium, purchased on a large plot of land within the neighborhood, is viewed by many as a potential catalyst for rediscovery and appreciation of the area’s unique cultural identity.
La Alma-Lincoln Park, perhaps the second oldest neighborhood in Denver, has long been a vibrant hub of Latino culture and a foundational part of the city’s story. The arrival of the stadium presents a pivotal moment, prompting discussions about responsible development and preserving the neighborhood’s diversity while increasing visibility and access.
David Griggs, board member at large for the La Alma-Lincoln Park Neighborhood Association, believes the stadium will be ”very impactful,” bringing increased attention, transportation access, and a broader understanding of the neighborhood’s history. “It’ll have just many impacts, from the number of people who learn about our neighborhood, use our neighborhood…and all the people who learn about La Alma-Lincoln Park and the history of Denver that’s represented here,” Griggs said. He emphasized the importance of collaboration wiht Broncos ownership to ensure development is conducted “with respect, understand[ing] the culture, and appreciat[ing] its diversity.”
Longtime residents Diane Young and Jerry De-La-Cruz, who have lived in La Alma-Lincoln Park for over 20 years, share a hopeful outlook. “This is already a residential neighborhood, so hopefully it won’t go downhill, but rather uphill,” Young stated, noting the ongoing construction of new homes in the area. “There’s all sorts of good stuff…That’s a huge plot of land that they bought, so what they’re going to do with the rest of it will be really interesting.”
