Denpasar, Bali – Following recent devastating floods, the Denpasar City Health Office (Dinkes) is actively providing free health services to affected residents, deploying teams from community health centers (Puskesmas) throughout the city.
“Public health is our top priority. We are on the ground to provide services and education so that residents become more aware of the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness and personal health, especially after a disaster,” stated Anak Agung ayu Agung Candrawati, Head of the Denpasar City Health Office, on Friday.
Health officials, lead by Candrawati, are conducting health checks, distributing medicines and vitamins to bolster immunity, and offering consultations and health education focused on preventing post-flood diseases. Teams are also testing wells for chlorine levels to safeguard against waterborne illnesses and fumigating high-risk areas, including Kesiman.
Candrawati emphasized the heightened vulnerability to diseases like diarrhea, skin infections, and respiratory illnesses in the aftermath of flooding, underscoring the necessity of rapid health intervention.
Residents receiving the services have expressed appreciation for the health checks and information provided by medical personnel.
The response follows floods that, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), resulted in 18 fatalities and impacted thousands across Bali. Bali recently ended its emergency status following the floods, but authorities are also exploring weather modification technology to mitigate the risk of future events. Aid is also being distributed to help revive businesses impacted by the disaster.
