Delta Launches Nonstop Service From Santa Rosa to Salt Lake City
Delta Air Lines launched daily nonstop service between Santa Rosa and Salt Lake City on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, landing its first regional jet at Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport and introducing the facility’s first curbside baggage check-in.
Delta Flight 3541 Arrives From Salt Lake City
Delta flight 3541 touched down at 10:26 a.m. Tuesday, carrying 52 passengers aboard a 76-seat Embraer E-175 regional jet after a flight lasting one hour and 45 minutes, according to the airline and Flightradar24 data cited by The Press Democrat. Fifty-nine passengers boarded the return flight departing just before noon. A second daily arrival, Delta flight 3533, landed just before 4 p.m. with 45 passengers aboard and 27 on the outbound leg.
The new route brings the airport’s active commercial carriers back to four, joining Alaska, American, and Southwest airlines. To handle the additional passenger volume, Delta established the airport’s first curbside passenger and baggage check-in service beneath a tent just north of the terminal along the main walkway. Airport Manager Jon Stout noted that the facility’s ticket counters are essentially full and queuing space is limited, raising the possibility of expanding curbside service to other carriers through a shared contract as regional activity grows.

Route Shifts and Carrier Competition in Santa Rosa
Alaska Airlines, the largest commercial carrier serving Santa Rosa, announced plans in May for a nonstop link to Salt Lake City starting November 1 but recently dropped the route. Meanwhile, Alaska is ending its service linking Sonoma County to Ontario at the end of the month, though it remains on schedule to launch direct flights from Santa Rosa to Boise and Phoenix on November 1. Those routes replace service previously cancelled by Avelo Airlines before its departure from the Sonoma County airport in August 2025.
Southwest Airlines, the fourth commercial carrier at the airport, initiated Denver flights a few days a week in April with plans to scale frequency toward daily service by March 11, 2027.
Wine Takes Flight Perks Match West Coast Travel Trends
Alongside the new route, Delta introduced its Wine Takes Flight program on Tuesday. The perk allows eligible SkyMiles members to check one case of wine free of charge on qualifying flights originating from Sonoma County as well as Oakland, San Francisco, San Jose, and Sacramento airports. Eligible cases may contain up to 12 unopened 750-milliliter bottles and weigh no more than 50 pounds.

The offering parallels Alaska Airlines’ established Wine Flies Free program, launched in 2018, which permits loyalty members to check a case of wine fee-free across 34 West Coast airports in California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Southwest Airlines maintains a comparable regional program.
Salt Lake City Hub Connections and Remaining Airline Schedules
Salt Lake City International Airport serves as a primary hub for Delta, accounting for approximately 70% of the facility’s traffic. The airport handles more than 300 daily departures across over 100 destinations and accommodated roughly 28 million passengers over the past year. Ten ski resorts sit within a one-hour drive of the Utah hub.
