Delaware Updates Driving Restrictions Amid Winter Storm Fern

DELAWARE – Governor Matt Meyer (D) has announced updated driving restrictions across Delaware as winter Storm Fern transitions from snow to sleet. the storm, which began impacting the state on January 26, 2026, is causing hazardous road conditions and reduced visibility.

As of 3:00 PM EST, a Level 1 Driving Warning is in effect for all three Delaware counties: New Castle, kent, and Sussex. This means motorists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel. Roads are reported to be slick with accumulating ice, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and ramps. Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) crews are actively working to clear roadways, but conditions remain challenging.

“The safety of Delawareans is our top priority,” said Governor Meyer in a press release. “We urge everyone to stay home if possible and allow our crews to work. If you must travel, please exercise extreme caution and reduce your speed.”
