Deion Sanders Calls for College Football Uniform Fines
Coach wants to see more respect for the game.
**Deion Sanders**, now head coach at Colorado, is pushing for college football to adopt fines for uniform violations, a practice he experienced as an NFL player.
Enforcing Uniform Standards
**Sanders** voiced his disapproval at Big 12 media days, noting his concern about players wearing pants high enough to expose their thighs, leaving knees unprotected.
“Let’s do something about the uniforms,”
**Sanders** stated, expressing his frustration with the current state of player attire. “We’ve got guys in biker shorts. That makes me sick because I’m a football guy — I played this game at a high level and I have so much respect for this game. How can we allow guys out there in biker shorts, no knee pads, no nothing, literally pants up under their thighs, and that’s cool?”
A Call for Fines
While officials could penalize players with flags for not wearing knee pads, **Sanders** believes financial penalties would be a more effective deterrent. He believes this would instill greater respect for the game, mirroring professional standards.
“I think there should be a fine implemented for that stuff, and let’s have more respect for this tremendous game,”
**Sanders** declared.
Pushing for NFL-Style Changes
**Sanders** has also expressed interest in a salary cap for college football and adopting NFL rules. His stance aligns with the increasing professionalization of college sports. In fact, the NCAA generated $1.14 billion in revenue in 2023 alone (Statista).
**Sanders** also stated that he wishes the NCAA had a salary capand that the NCAA would adopt NFL playing rules. As college football becomes more than ever a professional sport, Sanders wants to go all the way and make it as close to the NFL as it can possibly get.
