Deathwing Finally Dropped! – WoW Community Post
A Hearthstone player reported receiving the Deathwing card randomly, sparking renewed interest in the recently released Cataclysm expansion. The player, posting on an online forum, expressed gratitude to Blizzard Entertainment for the unexpected acquisition.
The Cataclysm expansion, launched on March 17, 2026, introduces 135 new collectible cards and features the return of Colossal minions, alongside the debut of the Herald and Shatter keywords. Central to the expansion is Deathwing, who players can now embody as a playable hero card. Transforming into Deathwing allows players to unleash “apocalyptic abilities,” including the ability to destroy enemy minions and control dragonfire, according to Blizzard.
The expansion’s mechanics are tied to the Herald keyword. The more often Herald is used, the more powerful Deathwing’s abilities grow. Six classes – Demon Hunter, Death Knight, Rogue, Shaman, Warrior, and Warlock – are aligned with Deathwing and utilize the Herald keyword to enhance their Colossal minions.
The release of Cataclysm coincides with excitement surrounding a new expansion for World of Warcraft, though discussion has largely focused on the Hearthstone update. Some players have expressed initial reservations about the effectiveness of the Herald mechanic, noting that it may be underwhelming in the current meta, where aggressive strategies are proving successful. According to a recent analysis, the success of mechanics like Herald often requires a shift towards more control-oriented gameplay and time for the meta to stabilize.
Meanwhile, in World of Warcraft, the Obsidian Worldbreaker mount, originally released during the game’s 15th-anniversary event, has been made available again through Patch 11.0.5. Players can purchase the mount from Storekeeper Reginald in Tanaris for 20 Bronze Celebration Tokens. The mount’s return follows community requests after the release of the Azure Worldchiller, a frost-themed variant introduced during last year’s anniversary event.
