Community Mourns Passing of Stephen Holohan
Beloved resident of Ballina / Killaloe remembered for his cherished family life.
The community of Ballina and Killaloe is in mourning following the peaceful passing of Stephen (Steve) Holohan on August 8th, 2025. He died after a prolonged illness at the Lakes Nursing Home, Killaloe.
A Cherished Family Man
Stephen, deeply loved husband of Irene, was a devoted father to Andrea and Ronan. His memory is held dear by his son-in-law Gordon and daughter-in-law Susan, and his adored grandchildren Sophie, Aimee, Lauren, and Mark. He is also survived by his brothers Michael, Pat, and sister Liz, along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, and a wide circle of friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings John and Mary.
The family has requested a private house, with those wishing to offer condolences asked to consider donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland.
Tributes and Services
Stephen Holohan will repose at Thompson’s Funeral Home, Thomas Street, on Monday, August 11th, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. A Requiem Mass will be held at Our Lady & St. Lua Church, Ballina, Co. Tipperary, on Tuesday, August 12th, at 12:00 PM. The service will be available via live stream at churchcamlive.ie/ballina-boher-parish/.
Following the Mass, a cremation service will take place at Shannon Crematorium at 3:00 PM.

The family’s request for donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland highlights the ongoing impact of dementia. In Ireland, it is estimated that over 60,000 people live with dementia, with this figure projected to rise significantly in the coming decades, underscoring the importance of support and research in this area (Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland).
