DB Cargo Crisis: New CEO & Board Changes at Deutsche Bahn

Deutsche Bahn is reshuffling‍ it’s leadership with the appointment of Bernhard osburg, former ​CEO of Thyssenkrupp Steel, to head⁣ the struggling DB Cargo freight division. The move, first reported by Table.Media and confirmed by⁢ dpa, follows‍ the rejection of outgoing head Sigrid Nikutta’s⁣ turnaround ​plan for the subsidiary. A ⁢supervisory board meeting is scheduled for​ october 30th ⁣to finalize the decision.

Osburg,who left Thyssenkrupp ⁤in August 2024 following disagreements over company reorganization,will be tasked with revitalizing DB Cargo’s performance. The appointment is ‌the latest step in a broader restructuring‌ initiated by new deutsche Bahn CEO Evelyn Palla. ⁤

Alongside the DB Cargo change, Deutsche Bahn has also announced plans to fill other vacant leadership positions.Karin Dohm, previously a manager at Hornbach, is slated to ​become the new finance director, succeeding levin Holle who joined ⁤the Federal Chancellery earlier this year. Harmen van Zijderveld, formerly responsible for rail ‌operations at DB Regio, is reportedly in line to lead regional​ transport, pending ‌supervisory board approval. These appointments signal a extensive overhaul ‍of the railway company’s top-level management.
