Detroit Lions‘ David Montgomery Driven by Emotional Reunion with Sister at Bengals Game
DETROIT – Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery has a deeply personal motivation heading into Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals: it will be the first time his sister, Kiki, will be able to watch him play live as a car accident left her paralyzed from the neck down last February. The game holds particular importance as montgomery anticipates sharing this moment with his sister after a challenging year.
The reunion transcends the usual competitive fire of an NFL matchup.Kiki’s presence provides Montgomery with renewed purpose as he continues a standout start to the 2025 season. “This will be the first game that my sister can actually see me play with her own eyes so I’m super super excited about that and I’m just happy that she’s able to be there,” Montgomery reflected.
Montgomery has already demonstrated extraordinary performance this season, highlighted by a career-high 151 rushing yards and two touchdowns against the Baltimore Ravens. His 72-yard run in that game currently stands as the longest rush of the 2025 NFL season. He, along with teammates Jahmyr gibbs and Amon-Ra St. brown, recently set a record for the most games in wich a trio from one team all scored touchdowns. The duo of Montgomery and Gibbs also share the record for most games with both backs finding the end zone.
While manny players draw motivation from external factors, Montgomery’s focus is firmly on sharing this experience with his sister.”Almost a year and a half ago, on Valentine’s Day, my sister got in a really bad car accident.Now she is paralyzed from the neck down…But this is much more than coming back home,” montgomery stated, emphasizing the profound emotional weight of the game.
