Dave edmunds Suffers Major Cardiac Arrest, wife Reports
Musician Dave Edmunds, 81, suffered a major cardiac arrest at his home in Wales on Tuesday, July 29. His wife, Cici Edmunds, shared the news via Facebook, stating that she revived him with CPR after he “died in my arms.”
In her post, Cici Edmunds detailed the severe consequences of the event, noting that Dave Edmunds has “very clearly has brain damage and severe memory loss, etc.” She also expressed concern about the high risk of another cardiac arrest, stating that “if that occurs there is no chance for Dave…” She concluded by acknowledging the tough road ahead for both of them, finding solace in the support of others.
Born in Cardiff in 1944, Edmunds first gained prominence in the late 1960s as a member of Love Sculpture, which achieved a UK Top 5 hit in 1968 with “Sabre Dance.” he later embarked on a triumphant solo career, releasing hits in the 1970s including “I Can Hear You Knocking,” “I Knew The Bride,” and “Girl Talk.”
In 1975, Edmunds formed the band rockpile with Nick lowe, formerly of Brinsley Schwarz. The group released their album “Seconds Of Pleasure” in 1980.
Throughout his career, Edmunds collaborated with a range of notable artists, including Paul McCartney, Status Quo, Jeff Lynne of ELO, and rock and roll pioneer Carl Perkins.
Edmunds released his final album, “On Guitar…Rags & Classics,” in 2015 and announced his retirement in 2017.
