Dave Bautista Lands Leading Role in Rom-Com “The Romantic”
Los Angeles, CA – june 26, 2025 – Dave Bautista, known for his roles in action franchises like “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Blade Runner 2049,” is set to star in the upcoming romantic comedy “The Romantic” [[3]]. Paramount Pictures has acquired the rights to the film, which is based on a spec script by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont.The premise centers around Francine London, a bestselling romance author who harbors a secret: Francine is actually Ed Schwenke, a 6’4″ man [[3]]. When his true identity is threatened with exposure,Ed enlists the help of a woman to pose as Francine at a romance fiction convention,all while attempting to evade a journalist who despises both romance and dishonesty.This role marks a critically important step for Bautista, who has openly expressed his desire to break into the rom-com genre [[3]]. He is also reportedly considering a role in “Road House 2” for Amazon MGM.
The project will be produced by Maximum Effort and Bautista’s own Dogbone Entertainment label. A director has not yet been announced.
