Night City Gets a scare: new Cyberpunk Comic “chrome” Blends Sci-Fi with Horror
A new chapter in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe is on the horizon with cyberpunk 2077: Chrome,a four-issue comic series from Dark Horse Comics. This latest addition to the officially canon storyline promises a chilling departure from previous installments, injecting classic horror elements into the gritty, futuristic world of Night City.
The story follows a photoshoot crew venturing into a notoriously dangerous landfill – a location already steeped in local legend as being haunted. Though, they’re about to discover that the threats lurking within Night City are far more terrifying than any ghost story. The creative team emphasizes a focus on genuine scares and supernatural elements, moving away from the typical violence driven by economic motives often seen in cyberpunk narratives.
Dark Horse Comics has forged a strong partnership with CD Projekt Red, ensuring all published Cyberpunk comics contribute to the game’s established lore. Previous series, like Cyberpunk 2077: XOXO, have successfully expanded the Night City setting while maintaining core cyberpunk themes, exploring gang conflicts and even incorporating shakespearean romance. chrome, however, distinguishes itself by embracing slasher movie conventions within the sci-fi landscape.
The landfill setting itself is integral to the horror narrative, leveraging the decaying urban aesthetic that defines Night City. It’s a location rumored to harbor supernatural threats, pushing the protagonists to their limits.
Cyberpunk 2077: chrome #1 will be available for pre-order at local comic book stores starting this Friday, September 26th. It will also be accessible through conventional comic distribution channels and the Dark Horse Digital Comics platform. Following the January 2026 launch, the series will continue with three subsequent issues. Dark Horse comics plans to release a collected edition containing all four issues in a single volume upon completion of the run.
This release is part of a broader expansion of Cyberpunk content from Dark Horse, including the upcoming February 2026 release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Madness Volume 1 in paperback. Chrome aims to appeal to both dedicated Cyberpunk fans and readers seeking a unique blend of horror and science fiction. The limited four-issue format offers a complete story arc, making it accessible to newcomers unfamiliar with the wider Cyberpunk universe.
