‘Family Matters’ Star Darius McCrary Arrested Near U.S.-Mexico Border
SAN DIEGO - Former “Family Matters” actor Darius McCrary, 49, was arrested Sunday near the U.S.-Mexico border in San Diego after being identified as a fugitive with a felony warrant out of Michigan. He is currently being held without bail and is scheduled for a court appearance on Wednesday.
The warrant stems from a missed court date related to unpaid child support,Entertainment Weekly reported. U.S.Border Patrol officers made the arrest after discovering the outstanding warrant.
“He did not know at the time that he had a warrant, or he would have taken care of it,” McCrary’s representative, Ann Barlow, told Entertainment Weekly. Barlow added that McCrary was traveling to Tijuana to collaborate with a real estate developer on a project building homes for the homeless, intending “to speak encouragement and light to the homeless.”
This arrest marks McCrary’s third in the past 10 years,according to peopel.
McCrary is best known for his role as Eddie Winslow in 215 episodes of “Family Matters,” which aired from 1989 to 1998. His acting career also includes 86 episodes as Malcolm Winters on “The Young and the Restless” (2009-2011) and voicing the character Jazz in the 2007 film ”transformers.” He has also worked as a film producer. IMDb records indicate consistent acting work from 1987 to 2025, with a period of reduced activity between 1989 and 1993.
