Darius Acuff Jr. Breaks Arkansas Single-Season Scoring Record | HawgBeat
Darius Acuff Jr. Etched his name into the Arkansas basketball record books on Thursday, surpassing Todd Day’s program record for single-season scoring. The feat occurred during the Razorbacks’ second-round NCAA Tournament game against High Point, with Acuff breaking the record with a three-pointer at the 4:03 mark of the first half.
The basket gave Acuff 789 points for the season, exceeding the 786 points Day accumulated during the 1990-91 season. Notably, Acuff reached this milestone in fewer games than Day, according to reports.
Acuff’s accomplishment extends beyond the Arkansas program. He is now the 27th player in Division I history to record at least 700 points, 200 assists, and 100 rebounds in a single season.
The standout freshman, named SEC Player and Freshman of the Year, has also earned consensus First Team All-American honors, recognized by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), as well as the Associated Press and The Sporting News. He and teammate Meleek Thomas were also named first team All-Southeast District by the NABC.
Acuff led the Southeastern Conference in scoring (22.2 points per game), assists (6.4), and assist-to-turnover ratio (3.2). He is on track to become the first SEC player since Pete Maravich to lead the conference in both scoring and assists, and the only player nationally to average at least 20 points and six assists.
