Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Review – Dark, Timely & Bone-Crunching

March 25, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

New York City finds itself under a new, and increasingly authoritarian, order as the second season of Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again premieres. Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) has enacted a city-wide ban on vigilantism, deploying an anti-vigilante task force to suppress any opposition – a force notably utilizing imagery associated with the Punisher, including the iconic skull symbol, according to reports.

The task force, operating outside of standard police procedure, is reportedly rounding up citizens on minor pretexts and detaining them in undisclosed locations. This aggressive approach, mirroring real-world concerns about overreach and abuses of power, lends a stark timeliness to the series, even as it continues the narrative of Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and his fight to protect the city.

The first season of Born Again, a relaunch of the Daredevil character on Disney+ after its initial run on Netflix, experienced significant creative shifts during production, including a change in showrunners, as previously reported by Variety. While the first season incorporated a procedural element, Season 2 maintains a focused narrative on Matt Murdock and his allies building a resistance against Fisk’s increasingly corrupt administration.

Returning cast members include Genneya Walton as BB Urich, continuing the legacy of her late uncle Ben, and Michael Gandolfini as a loyal enforcer within Fisk’s organization. Ayelet Zurer reprises her role as Vanessa Fisk, while Arty Froushan returns as the enigmatic fixer, Buck. Adding a new dynamic to the season is Matthew Lillard as Mr. Charles, a shadowy figure who appears to thrive on carrying out the directives of powerful individuals.

A key element driving the narrative shift is the absence of Jon Bernthal as the Punisher. According to ScreenRant, D’Onofrio explained that Bernthal’s commitments to a solo Punisher Disney+ special and a role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day film precluded his participation in Season 2. D’Onofrio stated that Bernthal was “hangin’ with that insect,” a reference to Spider-Man, and expressed support for his colleague’s other projects.

The Punisher’s storyline, following his escape from Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force, will now be explored in the dedicated Disney+ special, slated for release later in 2026, as confirmed by Epicstream. The trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already featured the Punisher, signaling his continued presence within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Meanwhile, Born Again Season 2 sees Matt Murdock and Karen Page forging a closer alliance as they operate to expose Fisk’s criminal enterprise. The series continues to embrace its TV-MA rating, delivering intense action sequences, including numerous hand-to-hand combat scenes. The show’s willingness to depict brutal violence, even within the moral framework of a Catholic protagonist, remains a defining characteristic.

Krysten Ritter is also set to reprise her role as Jessica Jones in the season, though her appearances are reportedly limited. Wilson Bethel’s Bullseye is also given a more prominent role, with a diner fight sequence set to Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind” highlighted as a standout moment. A flashback episode featuring Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson provides a brief respite from the season’s central conflict, revisiting the early days of the Nelson & Murdock law firm.

As the season unfolds, the stakes escalate, and the narrative increasingly reflects contemporary anxieties about political corruption and the erosion of civil liberties. Although, the show’s direct parallels to current events, while impactful, also result in a lack of nuance, offering observations that feel somewhat self-evident. Despite this, Born Again maintains a compelling, mature tone, functioning as the second half of a larger, ongoing story. A third season has already been confirmed by Deadline, leaving the future of Matt Murdock’s fight for New York City unresolved.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 premieres March 24th on Disney+, with new episodes released weekly on Tuesdays.
