The original “28 Days Later” film, released in 2002, earned $82.7 million against a $8 million budget, proving zombie movies are still popular (Box Office Mojo, 2024).

Jim’s Role in the New Films

Boyle confirms that the first film’s conclusion ties directly into the character of Jack O’Connell, who is called Jimmy. He clarified that Cillian Murphy will portray the original Jim in the third film. Ralph Fiennes will also return in the second film.
