Danish Editor Criticizes Mette-Marit’s Epstein Interview: “No Crisis Management Textbook”

March 21, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

Oslo, Norway – Criticism of Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s recent interview with Norway’s NRK regarding her relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein is mounting, with the editor-in-chief of Denmark’s Se og Hør magazine delivering a scathing assessment. Niels Pinborg characterized the interview as a public relations misstep unlikely to be studied as a model for crisis management.

Pinborg, speaking to Norway’s Dagbladet, expressed disappointment with the Crown Princess’s explanations, stating, “This ‘tell all’ interview will hardly be used as a textbook in crisis management.” He added, “It’s been so long. She really had the opportunity to sit down and come up with a much better explanation. There is nothing latest in what she says.”

The interview, published Friday, has sparked widespread debate in Norway and internationally, focusing on the timing and tone of Mette-Marit’s responses. Experts are analyzing the potential consequences for the monarchy and the Crown Prince’s marriage. Pinborg’s critique echoes concerns that the interview failed to address key questions surrounding the Crown Princess’s contact with Epstein.

According to Pinborg, the issue isn’t solely what Mette-Marit disclosed, but what she omitted. “It’s strange that when it gets interesting – she remembers nothing,” he said. He specifically questioned her recollection of details surrounding her interactions with Epstein, including her stated inability to recall what prompted her to search for information about him online, knowing at the time that reports indicated he was a convicted sex offender. “She remembers who paid for lunch, but not what they did in Palm Beach, or how she found out he was convicted of sexual abuse?”

Pinborg further criticized the Crown Princess for what he perceived as a lack of accountability. “She doesn’t answer the difficult questions, either because she doesn’t want to or because she doesn’t remember. That’s foolish. Because it is actually those that the Norwegian population wants answers to,” he stated. He believes Mette-Marit should have offered a more direct apology and a comprehensive account of her relationship with Epstein.

“She is too vague,” Pinborg asserted. “This interview will not make her popularity skyrocket. The Norwegians I know are not stupid. They see the same as me.”

Pinborg as well noted the extended period between the initial revelations about Mette-Marit’s contact with Epstein and the interview, suggesting she had ample time to prepare a more thorough response. He expressed skepticism that the Crown Princess has fully disclosed all relevant information, stating, “They must have more information than they let on. But now the Crown Princess must hope that You’ll see no more Epstein files mentioning her, and that no more surprises will emerge.”

The Crown Princess was interviewed at Skaugum, the royal residence, alongside Crown Prince Haakon. The interview followed the release of documents related to Epstein’s activities.
