Daniil Medvedev’s Title Chances Rise After Washington Open Upsets

Daniil Medvedev is poised to capitalize on a important opportunity at the Washington Open following the unexpected early exit of a key rival.

The Russian tennis star has enjoyed a highly successful 2023 season,securing five ATP Tour titles. This remarkable haul includes two prestigious Masters 1000 championships. Medvedev claimed the Rome Masters 1000 title by defeating Holger Rune in the final with a score of 7-5, 7-5. He also triumphed at the Miami Masters 1000, overcoming Jannik Sinner 7-5, 6-3 in the championship match.

His other titles this year came at the Qatar Open (then an ATP 250 event), where he beat Andy Murray 6-4, 6-4, and the Rotterdam Open (ATP 500), with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Jannik Sinner.

Medvedev’s dominant performances have seen him defeat top players in finals, including two wins against Jannik Sinner, one against Holger Rune, one against Andrey Rublev, and another against two-time Wimbledon champion andy murray.
