Danielsmeyer and Pawlowska win DRM Nationals at Stemweder Berg
Markus Danielsmeyer and co-driver Katarzyna Pawlowska secured an overall victory at the DRM Nationals at Stemweder Berg, taking the winner's trophy in Lübbecke after completing a challenging course of varied stages in their Ford Escort MK2 without winning a single individual special stage.
While several front-running crews dropped out due to attrition, Danielsmeyer and Pawlowska maintained steady pacing to claim the top step of the podium. The victory marks their second major success in the series following their prior win in the DRM Classic category.
Capitalizing on Competitor Attrition and Mechanical Survival
The rally tested machines and crews across demanding special stages, punishing teams that pushed past mechanical limits. Danielsmeyer acknowledged the role that rival retirements played in their ascent, alongside their own persistent car trouble.
“We naturally benefited from the dropouts of some faster competitors,” Danielsmeyer said according to official ADAC Motorsport reporting. “But you have to make it through first. In addition, we had problems with the clutch. It was a difficult rally with very different stages. That is why we are all the more pleased about our first success.”
International Crew Claims Runner-Up Spot Despite Penalty
The Danish-Dutch pairing of Henrik Munk Hansen and Matthijs Heuten drove their 30-year-old Peugeot 106 S16 to a second-place finish.
The crew overcame adversity during the event, absorbing a 10-second penalty for checking in late at a refueling zone. Munk Hansen pointed to the resilience of their vintage machinery as a key factor in their ascent to third place in the overall DRM Nationals standings.
“A great result,” Munk Hansen stated. “We were even given a 10-second penalty because we were late for refueling. But we kept fighting and were rewarded. The car ran well, but it has its quirks: after all, it is 30 years old. Now we want to enjoy the champagne.”
The Overnight Repair Turnaround for Championship Points
Philipp Heinmüller and Lukas Müller rounded out the podium in third place, a result that propelled them back to the top of the Breitensportserie standings. Their presence on the podium required an intensive midnight garage session after an alternator failure sidelined their Opel Astra during Friday evening’s fourth special stage.
Rather than accepting a DNF, the crew traveled home to Hesse overnight, secured replacement parts, completed the repairs, and returned to the starting grid for Saturday’s stages.
“We dropped out on Friday evening at WP4 with a technical defect in the alternator, but we didn’t want to give up,” Heinmüller revealed. “That’s why we got the spare parts at home in Hesse at night, repaired everything and were able to start again on Saturday.”
Though the lost time precluded an overall victory, Heinmüller and Müller salvaged championship points by claiming four fastest stage times on Saturday. “We still managed four best times, but it wasn’t enough for the very front. However, we made the absolute best of the situation.”
Looking Ahead to the ADAC 3-Städte-Rallye
The fifth round of the DRM Nationals is scheduled for October 9 and 10, when competitors gather for the ADAC 3-Städte-Rallye to contest the next phase of the regional championship.
