A man in his 20s, arrested in connection with the 2021 disappearance and subsequent discovery of the remains of Daniel Aruebose, has been released without charge, Irish authorities confirmed Thursday.

The man was apprehended at Dublin Airport on Tuesday after being deported from Brazil, according to reports. Gardaí stated that a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions following his release overnight. He had been held for questioning regarding the death of Daniel Aruebose, whose skeletal remains were found buried on waste ground in Donabate, north Dublin, last September.

Daniel Aruebose was last seen alive in 2021, when he was approximately three and a half years old. His disappearance came to light when the Department of Social Protection flagged concerns about a child benefit application, unable to determine the boy’s whereabouts. This prompted a referral to Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, who then alerted Gardaí.

This is the second arrest made in connection with the case. A woman, also known to Daniel, was previously arrested in December and subsequently released without charge. Both individuals were identified as being central to the investigation shortly after concerns regarding Daniel’s welfare were raised last August, according to sources.

Gardaí have been in contact with authorities in Brazil, where the released man had been residing in recent years. He was deported on a separate immigration matter before being arrested upon arrival at Dublin Airport. The investigation into Daniel Aruebose’s death remains ongoing.
