Saint-Laurent borough is poised to welcome its first residents to the dalia district in the summer of 2026,marking a significant milestone in the area’s evolution from an industrial hub to a model of sustainable development. Online registration for the highly anticipated project begins this October.
Since first taking office in 2001, Mayor alan Desousa has championed innovation adn sustainability as the cornerstones of Saint-Laurent’s growth, transforming the borough’s identity and attracting over $100 million in investment to the Dalia project alone. This commitment reflects a long-term vision to create a competitive and vibrant community, one that extends beyond conventional industrial strengths. The Dalia district exemplifies this approach, aiming to set a new standard for urban living in quebec and Canada.
“I inherited from a city that had the reputation of being an industrial city. This aspect is important, but I wanted to add other colors to complete the table and be competitive in the future,” Desousa explained.
The borough’s dedication to sustainable practices, nurtured through a development laboratory established in 2008, has fostered collaborative relationships with developers, resulting in exemplary projects like Quorum and now, Dalia. “We have never had a short-term vision,” Desousa stated. “We have built for the years to come and we have given the example with our own buildings, such as the Boisé library, so that people embark.”
The Dalia district’s launch represents the culmination of years of planning and investment, signaling Saint-Laurent’s continued leadership in sustainable urban development and offering a glimpse into the future of community living.
