Welsh Dad’s ‘Acid Reflux’ Turns Out to Be Stage 4 Cancer, Inspires Family’s Fight
Cardiff, Wales – A Welsh father of two is undergoing intensive treatment after a persistent case of what he believed was acid reflux was diagnosed as stage four bowel cancer. Zack Van Aarde, 43, initially dismissed his symptoms, but sought medical attention when they worsened, leading to the devastating revelation. He is now sharing his story to raise awareness of bowel cancer symptoms and inspire others facing similar challenges.

Facing a grueling treatment plan,Van aarde is proactively exploring complementary therapies alongside conventional chemotherapy,driven by a determination to maximize his chances of recovery and remain present for his children.His story underscores the importance of early detection and the resilience of families confronting serious illness.
Van Aarde initially attributed his discomfort to indigestion, a common ailment he’d experienced previously. Though, the symptoms persisted and intensified, prompting him to consult a doctor. “I just thought it was acid reflux, something I’d get now and then,” he explained. Following tests, he received the life-altering diagnosis of stage four bowel cancer.
“Telling the kids was the hardest thing,” Van Aarde shared. He is now undergoing chemotherapy, understanding its impact on both cancerous and healthy cells. to support his body’s recovery, he’s incorporating hyperbaric oxygen therapy, high-dose vitamin C IV drips, and red light therapy into his regimen.
“Chemotherapy kills all the cells – good and bad ones,” Van Aarde said. “To give my cells the best chance of rejuvenating more quickly, we’ve been researching additional therapies.I’ve undergone hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber, which increases oxygen to the body, IV drips with intense doses of vitamin C – to boost the immune system - and red light therapy. I’m determined to do whatever I can to give to me the best chance for my family.”
