Philippines 2025 - In a stunning upset, Czechia has advanced to the semifinals of the FIVB Volleyball MenS World Championship, defeating Iran in a hard-fought quarterfinal match.
Key to Victory: Efficiency and Fewer Errors
Czechia’s victory wasn’t built on overwhelming power, but on consistent performance and minimizing mistakes. They edged Iran in attack, recording 56 spike kills compared to Iran’s 54,and held a slight advantage in net defense with 7 kill blocks to Iran’s 5. However, the decisive factor proved to be unforced errors: Czechia committed 25, while Iran struggled with 31.
Indra and Vasina Lead the Charge

Close behind was teammate Vasina, who tallied 21 points, adding one ace and one kill block, and maintaining a 61% attack success rate.
Indra Reflects on a “Fairy Tale” Run
Speaking to VBTV after the match, a visibly emotional Indra expressed his disbelief. “I still don’t realize what happened. It will take some time for sure,” he said. “From the start of the game, we were under big pressure. We were about to lose the second set too, but the guys from the bench came in and decided that set to keep us alive. We did much better in the third and the fourth sets, but even when we were leading by seven points, the end of the game still felt so far. I cannot find the words…”
Indra continued, emphasizing the team’s initial focus. “we said to ourselves that the first game against Serbia woudl be important, but we were not thinking about qualification beyond the group. We wanted to show good volleyball, as we have really good players and a really good team. But we are not big stars yet, we were the underdogs, and it’s been like a fairy tale.”
