Czech Republic faces Iran in Volleyball World Championship Quarterfinal
Lubljana,Slovenia – September 25,2025 – The Czech Republic national volleyball team will clash with Iran in a highly anticipated quarterfinal match of the volleyball World Championship today. This marks a crucial stage for both teams as they vie for a coveted spot in the semifinals and a chance to compete for the championship title.
The encounter carries important weight, building on a recent history between the two nations. While the Czech Republic holds positive memories from a 3:1 Olympic qualification victory over Iran in October 2023,both teams finished near the bottom of their eight-member group during that same competition – the Czechs in sixth place,Iran instantly behind them.Their last World Championship meeting occurred in 2006, resulting in a 3:0 win for the Czech Republic. However, the current championship presents a new landscape, with Iran showcasing a formidable offense led by worldwide Ali Hadžípur, currently the fifth-highest scorer in the tournament with 76 points and a strong presence at the net with nine blocking points.
Hadžípur’s consistent performance, averaging 19 points per match, positions him as a key threat for the Czech team. Czech coach Velik has emphasized the need to disrupt Iran’s rhythm and force them into uncomfortable situations. The team will need to leverage their past successes while adapting to Iran’s evolved gameplay to secure a victory and advance further in the tournament.
