Cynthia Erivo to Lead Voice Cast of Animated Musical Bad Fairies, Featuring Songs by Six Creators
Cynthia Erivo will star in Bad Fairies, a new animated musical feature slated for release on May 21, 2027. The film will feature original songs penned by Toby marlow and Lucy Moss, the tony Award-winning creators of the hit musical Six: The Musical, and a score composed by Isabella “Machine” Summers, a Grammy-nominated artist known for her work with Florence + The Machine.
The project marks a meaningful collaboration between Warner Brothers Pictures Animation and Locksmith Animation, representing the first feature film under their first-look deal. Bad Fairies is directed by Megan Nicole Dong (Centaurworld) and co-directed by Olivier Staphylas (Puss in Boots, Wish dragon), with a screenplay by Deborah Frances-White. Erivo will voice the character of Jayne Staplegun,a rebellious fairy who ignites a disruption in the magical world.
The creative team also includes producer Carolyn Soper, editor Sim Evan-Jones, cinematographer James CJ Williams, character designer Uwe Heidschötter, and heads of story rikke Asbjoern and Chris Garbutt. Production is currently underway in London, with DNEG Animation serving as the digital partner.
erivo’s upcoming projects include her portrayal of Elphaba in Wicked: for Good, set to open on November 21. She is a three-time Academy Award nominee and has earned Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Awards.
