CSKA to Pay Botev Plovdiv €100k After Upcoming Match | Eto’o Transfer Clauses

March 24, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

CSKA Sofia will transfer €100,000 to Botev Plovdiv in early April, following their match against Beroe on Saturday, March 4th, at 7:30 PM local time. The payment is triggered by a clause linked to the appearances of James Eto’o for CSKA, according to multiple reports.

The upcoming payment will bring the total amount CSKA has paid Botev Plovdiv for Eto’o to €1.3 million. CSKA initially paid €1 million to secure the Cameroonian player in the summer of 2024, and has since made two additional payments of €100,000 each after Eto’o reached 20 and 40 appearances for the club. The clause stipulates a payment of €100,000 for every 20 matches Eto’o plays for CSKA.

The agreement between the two clubs, revealed by Botev Plovdiv’s previous management, also includes a 20% share of any future transfer fee received for Eto’o by CSKA. Botev Plovdiv is entitled to a bonus of €50,000 for each trophy Eto’o wins with CSKA, and an additional €50,000 for each round Eto’o participates in during European club competitions.

With Eto’o poised to make his 60th appearance for CSKA, the club is reportedly considering the financial implications of continuing to trigger these appearance-based payments. Sources suggest that CSKA may find it more financially advantageous to allow Eto’o’s current contract to expire this summer and re-sign him as a free agent, avoiding further payments to Botev Plovdiv.

This represents not the only recent financial transaction between the two clubs. CSKA also paid Botev Plovdiv €120,000 earlier this year for the rights to player Andrey Yordanov.
