Gustavo Busato will depart CSKA Sofia at the end of his contract, ending a seven-year run with the club, according to reports from Topic Sport. The 34-year-old goalkeeper, who arrived in the summer of 2019, has recently lost his starting position to Fyodor Lapukhov, signed earlier this year.
Busato’s current deal extends through June 2026, with an option for an additional year, but CSKA appears set to move forward with Lapukhov in goal. This marks the end of an era for the Brazilian-Italian player, a key figure in the team who also served as captain and holds the record for moast appearances by a foreign player in CSKA’s history.Arriving from local side inno, Busato quickly established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper, amassing a total of 203 appearances across all competitions for the 31-time bulgarian champions. This includes 154 First League matches,18 Bulgarian Cup games, one Super Cup appearance, and 30 European tournament outings.
During his tenure, Busato conceded 159 goals while achieving 98 clean sheets. He surpasses Ibrahima Guy (160 appearances), Jefferson (160 appearances, fewer games played), and Thiago Rodriguez (154 appearances) as the most-capped foreign player in CSKA’s history. Busato will turn 35 on October 23rd.
