Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Portugal camp after Jorge Jesus announcement
Cristiano Ronaldo left the Portugal national team training camp following a conversation with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation and an announcement on Instagram, according to reports. The 41-year-old forward departed Parken stadium alongside two members of the backroom staff after manager Jorge Jesus confirmed Goncalo Ramos would start ahead of him.
Jorge Jesus Denies Rift Over Squad Selection
Speaking to media prior to the fixture, Jorge Jesus maintained that no underlying rift caused the tension within the camp. Any player – and I was a player myself – when you spend 20 or 30 minutes warming up and then don’t get on, no-one is happy about that.
The manager explained that he had informed Ronaldo before the match that he would not start the game but might feature as a substitute. After deciding against bringing him on during the fixture, Jesus noted it was nothing to make a fuss about.
Addressing reports regarding a missed training session on Tuesday, Jesus clarified that Ronaldo performed individual exercises focused on mobility and strengthening rather than refusing to take part. However, Ronaldo did not join his teammates on the pitch in Denmark.
Ronaldo Announces Departure and Future Statement
Following the manager’s press conference, Ronaldo confirmed his exit via an Instagram post. He added that he would eventually reveal the truth behind his departure to the Portuguese public and wished his teammates success in their upcoming fixtures.
Portugal Prepares for Denmark and Norway Matches
The Portuguese Football Federation acknowledged the departure in an official statement, confirming that preparations for the matches against Denmark and Norway would proceed with the remaining 24 squad members. The entire delegation remains totally focussed on the national team’s next fixtures and on achieving the established objectives,
the federation stated. Goncalo Ramos, who scored the winner against Norway, remains the preferred choice at striker for the upcoming match against Denmark.
