dutch Consortium Wins €115 Million Contract for CPK Airport’s Luggage Handling System
Baranów, Poland – A consortium led by Vanderlande Logistics GmbH, Vanderlande Logistics, and UniPessoal LDA has been awarded a €115 million contract to supply and assemble the baggage handling system (BHS) for Poland’s planned Central Interaction Port (CPK) airport, located between Warsaw and Łódź. The deal also includes a potential extension valued at PLN 93 million, bringing the total potential contract value to PLN 97 million for maintenance.
The BHS will span approximately 80,000 square meters within the passenger terminal and feature over 16 kilometers of conveyor belt. CPK officials state the system will utilize Individual Carrier System (ICS) technology, transporting luggage in containers to enable full tracking, reduce damage risk, and allow for modular expansion as air traffic grows.
CPK, a state-owned company responsible for the long-term Central communication Port program, anticipates construction of the airport in the communes of Baranów, Wiskity and Teresin will begin in 2026. Certification is slated for 2031, with the first phase – connecting Warsaw, CPK, and Łódź – planned for launch in 2032. The estimated investment cost for the project through 2032 is PLN 131.7 billion.
The new airport is initially designed to accommodate 34 million passengers annually,with a flexible design allowing for future expansion.CPK also encompasses a high-speed rail system and accompanying infrastructure improvements, including new railway lines, expressways, and highways.
