Jerry Jones Addresses Micah parsons’ Trade Comments, Praises Dak Prescott, Defends NFL overtime Rules
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones addressed several key topics Tuesday, including recent comments from Micah Parsons regarding a potential trade, the team’s offensive success led by Dak Prescott, and the ongoing debate surrounding NFL overtime rules. The remarks came following the Cowboys’ tie against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Jones responded to Parsons’ postgame assertion that he “couldn’t tell me as a man” about a possible trade, learning of it instead through his agent. Jones stated the communication ceased when Parsons requested to be removed from his contact list, saying, “That phone call thing got stopped when he told me to take his number off my dial. It was don’t call him anymore. So I quit those calls.”
The owner lauded Prescott’s strong start to the season, describing the quarterback as “indispensable.” Jones credited offensive coordinator Brian schottenheimer with helping Prescott elevate his game, noting Prescott is “throwing the ball quicker” and highlighting the effectiveness of the Cowboys’ running game. “I gave Brian credit last year for how I thought Dak had really elevated his game… Dak’s throwing the ball quicker. It wasn’t just that game,it’s the games in general. He’s getting the ball out…” Jones said. He further emphasized the importance of the running game and the offensive line’s blocking.
Regarding the NFL’s overtime rules, Jones expressed satisfaction with the current structure, especially considering the Cowboys’ recent tie. He cited the importance of maintaining a three-hour broadcast window as a key factor in any potential rule changes. “It’s very significant to try to look for and try to attain a three hour window,” Jones explained. “and so it has to do with timing, it has to do with other games, has to do with really the structure of just how much is enough relative to timing more than anything, the length of the game.”
