Forty-Six Trees Felled in Error During Park Redevelopment
[Town/City, State] – A council has discovered 46 trees were mistakenly cut down during the redevelopment of a local park and hospitality precinct.The unexpected loss has prompted a review of site management procedures,according to council officials.
The trees were felled in addition to those already planned for removal as part of the park’s redevelopment, which aims to improve accessibility with new pathways. Councillor [Cr Vernon’s Last Name] stated the council had “endeavoured to ensure as few trees as possible were removed” and had “worked hard…to refine that number down to the least number of trees possible.”
“We knew that there were going to be some tree losses and thay had been planned for,” Cr Vernon saeid. “But what’s happened now…has not been something that our council had planned for,nor had we anticipated.”
She described the situation as “a pretty big shock, frankly, to myself and councillors.”
Originally, the park plans included retaining 277 existing trees, planting 43 new trees, and 23,160 plants. In response to the unexpected losses, the council now intends to plant more than 94 new trees.
Cr vernon confirmed the council is investigating the cause of the error. “We are seeking answers, and unfortunately it will be at the end of the day, either a failing of individuals or of systems and processes,” she said. “We need to get to the bottom of that as soon as we can for the sake of ourselves and our community.”
