San Pedro Sula, honduras – Costa Rica’s national team received encouraging news regarding veteran midfielder Celso borges ahead of Thursday’s crucial World Cup Qualifier against Honduras. After initially appearing doubtful due to a muscle injury, the Costa Rican Football Federation reported Borges is showing “improvement and positive evolution.”
Borges initially felt discomfort during Saturday’s training and was held out of sessions as a precaution on Sunday. Though, the federation stated he will continue with differentiated work as his recovery is assessed, holding out hope he might potentially be available for minutes against Los Catrachos.
Head coach Miguel “Piojo” Herrera called up 26 players for the matches against Honduras and Nicaragua, including Borges, along with fellow experienced players Kendall Waston and Allan Cruz, aiming to revitalize the team after setbacks in September.
Costa rica currently has two points in Group C of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers and needs a positive result away from home to remain in contention for qualification. The match against Honduras is scheduled for 8:00 PM at the Morazán Stadium in San Pedro Sula.
