Los Angeles, CA – Coronation Street actress Katy Cavanagh and her son, Jacobi Jupe, a rising star in the film industry, attended the 32nd Annual Actor Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday evening, marking a significant moment for the young actor as his career gains momentum. Cavanagh, known for her role as Julie Carp in the long-running ITV soap, showcased a glamorous look, a stark contrast to her character’s everyday attire, in a black sequinned gown.
Jacobi Jupe, 12, accompanied his mother, sporting a gold sequinned blazer and smart black trousers. The appearance comes as Jupe receives critical acclaim for his role as Hamnet in the film of the same name, a portrayal of Shakespeare’s son who died at the age of 11. His performance has garnered significant attention, earning him the Astra Film Award for Best Young Performer and nominations for the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Young Performer and the Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association Award for Best Breakthrough Performance.
Cavanagh is reportedly taking on a new role as a “momager,” supporting both Jacobi and her eldest son, Noah Jupe, 20, in their acting careers. Noah Jupe also has a connection to the Shakespearean themes explored in Jacobi’s film, playing an actor performing Hamlet, a play believed to be inspired by the tragedy of Hamnet’s death.
The 32nd Annual Actor Awards, previously known as the SAG Awards, were held at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall. The event celebrated the best performances in film and television of 2025, serving as the final major awards show before the Oscars on March 15. Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” was the night’s biggest winner, taking the top film award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture.
British talent was well-represented at the awards, with Owen Cooper, 16, winning Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series for his role in “Adolescence.” Cooper’s win makes him the youngest individual winner in the history of the ceremony, surpassing Kate Winslet’s previous record. He has also received a Primetime Emmy and a Golden Globe for the same role.
Jessie Buckley also secured a win for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in “Hamnet,” completing a sweep of major awards this season. Buckley acknowledged her co-star Emily Watson during her acceptance speech, praising her “wild imagination” and “ferocious gentleness.” Paul Mescal, also starring in “Hamnet,” was nominated but did not win in the supporting actor category, with Sean Penn taking the prize for his role in “One Battle After Another.”
The Actor Awards also recognized achievements in stunt perform, with “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” and “The Last of Us” winning in the film and television categories, respectively. The ceremony was hosted by Kristen Bell and streamed live on Netflix.
