Cyclist Dies in Cork City Collision, Separate Workplace Incident in ballycotton
A 26-year-old woman, originally from Japan and a recent arrival to Cork, died following a road traffic collision in Cork City centre on Thursday evening. The incident occurred at approximately 6:15pm at the junction of Albert Street and Albert Road,involving a truck and a bicycle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman’s body has been taken to Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem examination, scheduled for Friday. Sources indicate she was employed at a restaurant within the city and may have also worked in a retail position. She was in Ireland legally on a working visa.
Gardaí closed the road for several hours to facilitate a forensic collision investigation. Authorities have stated that weather conditions were not believed to be a contributing factor.
An Garda Síochána is appealing for information from anyone who witnessed the collision. They are specifically requesting that individuals with dash-cam or other camera footage from the area between 6:00pm and 6:30pm contact investigators.

Separate Incident in Ballycotton
In a separate incident, a man in his 40s died in Ballycotton, County cork, following an accident involving a dumper truck. Emergency services responded to Church Road at 3:30pm after receiving a call regarding the incident.
The man, who was engaged in work in the area, was fatally struck by the dumper truck he was operating. He was pronounced dead at the scene.his remains will be transferred to Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Garda forensic collision investigators are en route to the scene, and the L3633 road remains closed with local diversions in place. The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified and will conduct a full investigation. The coroner has also been informed, and an inquest will be held.
