Corinthians Poised to Switch from nike to Adidas in Landmark Deal
After a 22-year partnership, Sport Club Corinthians Paulista, commonly known as Corinthians, is reportedly on the verge of ending it’s relationship with Nike and signing a new deal with Adidas, perhaps beginning in 2026. Sources indicate that an agreement between the German sportswear giant and the SĂŁo Paulo-based club is imminent.
The End of an Era with Nike
Nike has been the uninterrupted sponsor of Corinthians since 2003. The current contract is set to expire at the end of 2025. However, an automatic renewal clause was triggered, extending the partnership until 2029. Despite this extension, the Corinthians board is exploring legal avenues to terminate the contract early and switch to Adidas for the next season.
Discontent and Financial Incentives
A key factor driving the potential switch is dissatisfaction within the club regarding the financial terms of the Nike deal. This discontent is amplified by Nike’s recent contract renewal with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) until 2038, reportedly worth almost R$600 million annually for sponsoring the Brazilian national team.
Adidas has presented a financial offer to Corinthians that surpasses Nike’s current payments to the club. This lucrative offer is a meaningful incentive for Corinthians to make the switch.
Adidas’ Strategic Move in the Brazilian Market
A partnership with Corinthians would mark a significant return to the SĂŁo Paulo market for Adidas, which exited in 2023 when SĂŁo Paulo FC switched to New Balance. Securing Corinthians would mean Adidas sponsors two of the most popular clubs in Brazil, as they already sponsor Flamengo.
Together, Flamengo and Corinthians account for approximately 40% of the country’s football fans, making this a strategic move for Adidas to solidify its presence in the Brazilian market.
Adidas Remains Silent
When contacted for comment, Adidas declined to provide a statement, stating that he would not speak.
Historical Importance
Corinthians holds a unique distinction in Brazilian football history.Corinthians is the only Brazilian champion that Adidas never wore. This potential partnership would break new ground and add another chapter to the club’s storied legacy.
