Coral Energía: 260 MW by 2026 & Expansion into Storage & Transmission in Argentina

March 25, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

Argentina’s Coral Energía is targeting consolidation and expansion into battery storage and transmission projects, aiming for 260 MW of built renewable capacity by the end of 2026, according to company statements and recent market reports.

The Buenos Aires-based renewable energy developer and power marketer is currently focused on completing solar projects under construction and advancing new battery energy storage systems (BESS), although also exploring opportunities in corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs) and potential investments in electricity transmission infrastructure. Marcelo Álvarez, Director of Planning and Institutional Relations at Coral Energía, stated the company’s goal is to “strengthen our position among the key players in renewable electricity sales” during an interview at the Future Energy Summit (FES) Argentina.

Coral Energía currently operates four solar parks built under the Generfe program in Santa Fe province, totaling 20 MW of installed capacity. The company is also developing projects awarded under RenMDI, a national renewable energy auction. A key component of its near-term growth is the construction of two BESS projects awarded through the AlmaGBA program, designed to improve power system reliability in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area.

The BESS projects, located at Pilar and Parque, will each have a capacity of 50 MW and connect to the Edenor distribution grid. Coral Energía will receive USD 11,461 per MW/month for the Pilar project and USD 11,979 per MW/month for the Parque project. The company currently has around 400 MW of contracted renewable capacity and projects under development.

Looking ahead, Coral Energía has set a strategic roadmap to achieve 1 GW of renewable energy contracts by 2030. The company is evaluating participation in the upcoming AlmaSADI tender, which is expected to allocate around 700 MW of BESS capacity across the country. It is also pursuing renewable projects connected to distribution networks, where grid capacity allows for new developments, and exploring corporate PPAs within Argentina’s Mercado a Término de Energías Renovables (MATER) framework.

New demand segments, such as mining operations and data centers, are also being targeted as potential customers for renewable electricity supply. Álvarez indicated the company is evaluating standalone storage projects between 100 MW and 200 MW, while also considering smaller systems. He noted that grid node capacity is a key factor in determining the feasible size of renewable projects, with many current developments ranging from 10 MW to 20 MW, and a push to increase that range to 30–50 MW projects.

This shift towards distribution network connections reflects growing congestion in Argentina’s high-voltage transmission system. Coral Energía is also considering participation in electric transmission expansion projects, with the government expected to launch tender documents this year for AMBA I, a major project aimed at reinforcing the Buenos Aires metropolitan grid. Two additional high-voltage transmission projects are anticipated in late 2026 or 2027: the Río Diamante – Charlone – O’Higgins line (500 kV, central-west Argentina) and the Puerto Madryn – Choele Choel – Bahía Blanca line (500 kV, Patagonia to Buenos Aires).

Álvarez stated that Coral Energía’s parent group, Corven, is actively evaluating involvement in these transmission projects, potentially as part of a consortium. He also noted that mergers and acquisitions could become part of the company’s growth strategy, with opportunities to acquire renewable parks already developed for the MATER market, particularly those with dispatch priority.
