CORAASAN & Supérate: Talk on Teen Pregnancy Prevention

CORAASAN and​ Supérate address Adolescent⁣ Pregnancy Prevention with Employee Education

SANTIAGO, Dominican Republic – ⁤The Santiago Aqueduct and ⁤Sewer⁢ Corporation ‍(CORAASAN), in ⁤partnership with⁤ the Superate Social Development Directorate (DDSS), hosted a training session ‍for its employees focused on preventing early unions and adolescent pregnancies. The initiative aims to equip parents within the ​CORAASAN workforce ‌with the tools ⁤and knowledge to ⁤foster open dialog and provide family counseling.

During the session, Supérate psychologist noely Nuez emphasized ‍the critical role of‌ effective parent-child communication in preventing teenage pregnancy, noting that such pregnancies‍ frequently enough lead‍ to social vulnerabilities including⁤ abortions, premature partnerships, and disruptions in ‌a young woman’s educational ⁣and emotional growth.

Walnut Odalis, ​a member of‌ the supérate Psychologists Team, underscored the state’s responsibility to protect the well-being of children and adolescents,⁣ including ‍raising ​awareness about the dangers of early relationships. Odalis referenced Law 136-03, the⁢ Dominican Republic’s​ system for the ‍protection of children and adolescents, which ‍explicitly prohibits marriage​ for minors, urging parents‍ to uphold this legal right.

The event included participation from CORAASAN’s Water‌ culture⁤ Coordinator,‍ Elizabeth Rodríguez, head of ⁣the Bella Vista‍ peripheral office; Rossina Abreu, CORAASAN’s Gender Equality Coordinator; and Merlys nuesi, ‍field‌ supervisor for Supérate’s norcentral office, among other representatives. ‍

The collaboration ‌between CORAASAN and Supérate reflects a ⁣broader national effort ⁣to address adolescent pregnancy, a‌ persistent social issue with long-term consequences for individuals and communities.
