TEMPO.CO, JakartaCopenhagen, the capital of Denmark, has been named the most livable city in the world in 2025, according to the British media company, The Economist. The city’s ranking is based on more than 30 factors across five categories that determine a city’s overall livability.

The categories include healthcare, culture and environment, education, infrastructure, and stability. The values of each factor are combined and weighed to produce a score ranging from 1 to 100. A score of 1 is considered intolerable, while a score of 100 is considered ideal. Copenhagen is ranked first with an average score of 98.0.

Profile of Copenhagen

Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark and the largest city in the Scandinavian country. Located on the eastern coast of the island of Sjaelland and partly on the island of Amager, Copenhagen is the political, economic, cultural, and educational center of Denmark.

According to Britannica, Copenhagen’s trade began to flourish during the late 16th century due to its status as the royal capital and naval base. Copenhagen’s climate falls into the temperate maritime category (oceanic climate), with relatively cool winters and warm summers.

The city is known as one of the most livable and happiest cities. The Institute for Quality of Life 2025 designated Copenhagen, Denmark, as the happiest city.

This designation is based on a survey involving various groups of the population regarding cities worldwide, using various parameters. The indicators used are not only economic, but also related to the quality of life in an area.

Copenhagen is known for being an orderly and tidy city. It is very suitable for pedestrians and cyclists. According to The Travel, modern Copenhagen has been designed with pedestrians in mind. Tourist attractions are placed close together so that tourists can reach them on foot.

Many tourist destinations are unreachable on foot, but a walking tour is a convenient option for tourists with a short layover. Several tourist destinations can be visited while in the city, ranging from palaces, museums, and various other historical sites.
