INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — This weekend, Indianapolis will host the IU Momentum Indy, a cycling event celebrating its 15th year, featuring bike races and family-friendly activities on Mass Ave and Meridian Street.

The event, which runs over three days, includes a variety of cycling activities such as the Mass Ave criterium, family rides, and a helmet giveaway to promote safety. Participants and spectators can enjoy a unique sporting experience in the heart of the city.

The Mass Ave criterium, starting on Friday, is described as “IndyCar on bikes,” where cyclists race on a closed loop, providing spectators with thrilling action as riders pass by at speeds of 30 miles per hour or more.

Saturday’s events include a family ride and a kids’ race on Meridian Street, set against the backdrop of Monument Circle. Most family events are free, making it an accessible outing for all.

The event also honors Major Taylor, one of the first world-class athletes from Indianapolis, with special rides such as the Honor Major Taylor Ride and the Mini Major Taylor Ride for families, showcasing the city’s cultural trail.

Mass Ave will be bustling with activity, offering plenty of spots for spectators to watch the races while enjoying local food and shopping.

IU Momentum Indy offers a vibrant weekend of cycling and community engagement, highlighting Indianapolis’s unique spots and honoring its historical figures. The event promises excitement for both participants and onlookers.
