Illinois⁤ State‌ Construction Management Students Excel at National ASC ⁢Competitions

Illinois State University’s construction management students recently achieved significant success at the ⁣Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Region 5 competition, earning top placements and representing the university with pride. Led by Dr. Sundeep ⁤Inti, ⁤the team demonstrated⁣ exceptional skills and knowledge in ‌challenging real-world scenarios.

This year’s team participated in two distinct⁤ categories: the Commercial Competition, sponsored by Walsh Group, and the Preconstruction Competition, sponsored by Power Construction. In the Commercial Competition, students submitted a bid for the⁢ construction of a 29-story high-rise building located in⁢ Chicago. The Preconstruction Competition tasked them with analyzing two different construction approaches for a 12-story mid-rise building,‌ also in Chicago.

“Our students performed exceptionally well, ⁣serving as proud ambassadors of ⁤ISU,” said Dr. Inti.

The success of the team is attributed ⁢to Illinois ‌State’s complete construction management curriculum and the program’s‌ requirement of two mandatory internships. These internships provide students with valuable hands-on experience,‌ bridging the gap between ‌classroom learning and practical request.

“I believe our‌ robust construction management curriculum, combined with the two mandatory internships that students complete⁤ during their ⁢time⁤ at ISU, provides them with well-rounded exposure and the ability to connect classroom learning with real-world ⁤applications,” Dr. Inti explained.

Looking forward, Dr. Inti expressed strong interest in continuing the program’s participation in⁤ future ASC competitions. He emphasized the immense value these competitions offer students, providing a⁣ platform for learning, skill presentation, and⁤ real-world experience.

“They provide a meaningful venue for learning, ‍showcasing their skills, and gaining real-world experience. At the same time,‍ these competitions offer ISU an chance to strengthen and build its legacy in construction education,” he‍ stated.

Dr. Inti also ⁤acknowledged the crucial support provided by Illinois State University, the⁢ College‍ of Applied ⁤Science and Technology (CAST), and the Department of Technology.‌ He highlighted the‌ availability of computer labs outside of regular hours, mentorship from faculty and ⁣the department chair, and administrative assistance as key factors in the team’s readiness.

“I am grateful‌ to the University⁢ community ‌and Illinois state’s mission of providing student-focused‌ education, applied learning, and academic excellence,” Dr.Inti concluded.
