Comedian Chris Gethard to Host Great Swamp Watershed Association’s Green Carpet Gala
MORRISTOWN, NJ – September 11, 2025 - The Great Swamp Watershed Association (GSWA) has announced comedian, podcaster, and actor Chris Gethard will host its annual Green Carpet Gala and silent Auction on October 23, 2025. Gethard’s acting credits include appearances in the Office, Broad City, Parks and Recreation, Anchorman 2, The Other Guys, The Heat, and Don’t Think Twice.
A New Jersey native and resident within the Great Swamp watershed, Gethard expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “The Great Swamp Watershed Association does very vital and often underappreciated work, and I’m thrilled to work with them at this year’s Gala.” He is also known for hosting the critically acclaimed podcast Beautiful/Anonymous, lauded by TIME Magazine for its “empathy, compassion, and kindness,” and has authored six books. Gethard also appeared in the HBO documentary Class Action Park, discussing the infamous New Jersey water park.
“We are absolutely delighted that Chris is coming out to entertain our supporters,” saeid Val Thorpe, GSWA Director of Operations. “His passion for the habitat is as extraordinary as his talent, and he’s sure to make this a night to remember!”
The Gala will also honor Julia Somers for her dedication to New Jersey environmental protection. A VIP Cocktail Hour will be held from 5:00-6:00 p.m. offering a private reception with Gethard and Somers, including cocktails and gourmet hors d’oeuvres for VIP ticket holders.
Attendees can further support the GSWA through “The Vegan Challenge,” where Cold Brook Farm in Oldwick, The Bernardsville Center, and anonymous donors will contribute $75 to the organization for each guest choosing the vegan meal option.
A Silent Auction, featuring a variety of items and experiences, will be open online starting October 16 and concluding at 9:30 PM on the night of the Gala.

Current Gala underwriters include Atlantic Health Systems, New Jersey american Water, Adrienne & Reed Auerbach, BASF, PSEG, and Valley Bank. Proceeds will benefit the GSWA’s water quality monitoring, environmental education, land preservation, stewardship, and advocacy initiatives.
The GSWA is an Accredited Land Trust and the official waterkeeper Alliance Affiliate for the Passaic River, dedicated to protecting and improving the water resources of the Passaic River region for nearly 45 years.
