Columbus Woman Killed in Russell County Car Crash | CNAW2 News
A 70-year-old Columbus, Georgia woman died Saturday after a head-on collision in Russell County, Alabama. Marie B. Thompson was pronounced dead at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown hospital following the crash, which occurred on U.S. 80 approximately 14 miles west of Phenix City.
The collision, reported around 4:15 p.m. Central standard time on February 14, 2026, involved Thompson’s 2019 Nissan Rogue and a 2017 Dodge Journey. According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the two vehicles collided head-on.
The driver of the Dodge Journey, a 40-year-old man from Prattville, Alabama, was as well injured in the crash and transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown for treatment. His condition remains unknown as of Sunday afternoon.
ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. No further details have been released regarding the cause of the crash or potential contributing factors. Authorities have not indicated whether charges are pending.
The crash occurred near mile marker 200 on U.S. Highway 80 West. The investigation remains ongoing, and ALEA has not provided a timeline for its completion.
